Remarks

I have always enjoyed receiving compliments about my artwork from followers across the globe but also criticisms, if duly warranted. In all my watercolour paintings I try to convey a large degree of atmosphere, ambiance and surprise to the viewer. The following are comments from the public related to some of the individual paintings that have been referenced within this website and completed:

The Goldhawk Road, London Circa 1965

December 11th 2016    Roger Bachelor – Brilliant Huntly, great painting, love it.

Huntly Maury –  Thank you so much Roger. Cheers!.
December 11th 2016    Martyn Court – Another terrific painting!
December 11th 2016    Malcolm Allan – Love the painting, Huntly, another fine scene! As for RTW448 it only spent 6 months at HD when brand new before moving on in 4/51 over to H. It then saw service at AR, B, AC, WL and again at AC. So, no, it would be slightly ‘off route’ on the Goldhawk Road! 🙂 Withdrawn 12/65 then exported to Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) in 6/66.
Huntly Maury – Thank you so much Malcolm for your kind remarks, response and useful details of its life at LT.  I had wondered if Ceylon was its final destination. Cheers!….Malcolm Allan – Welcome! I can just imagine it running along the pot-holed roads of Colombo with platform dragging along, windows missing and more dents, bumps and lumps in the roof than mother’s custard!
Huntly Maury – I just have the same thoughts about her myself especially with the very humid climate …good custard would be a challenge there!..
December 11th 2016      Thomas Roscrea Dwyer – great talent. Love it
December 11th 2016   Steve Downing – When I saw the first one you posted I immediately knew it was a style that you use. You have created a legacy and your art will be displayed and admired. Unfortunately that doesn’t usually happen until you are long gone. Keep knocking them out as future generations need more of your classics!
December 12th 2016     Martyn Court –  Hear hear!
December 11th 2016       Richard Stonely – FX3 taxi looks good also!

December 11th 2016       Jules Martin – Nice touch with the CO/CP stock on the bridge too
Huntly Maury– Thank you for your kind words and I promise to keep painting more. Cheers!….
December 11th 2016        Alan Lewin –  Brilliant painting, its all there, Triumph Bonneville, Evening News van, LT bus shelter, Bedford truck, Bedford CA, delivery boys bike with a flat tyre? E type Jag advert and me and my nan walking past the shop, more please!!
December 11th 2016       John Keddy –  Beautiful picture Huntly reminds of my younger years waiting on Shepherds Bush Green for the 709/710 green line and the 88s seem to be ever few minutes great memories.
December 11th 2016        Barry Shorland – Just around the corner from where I started my working life with LT
December 11th 2016        Mike Smith – Excellent, lovely to view, Thank You
December 11th 2016         Michael Foster – The bridge looks a bit to low .
Huntly Maury – Michael, thank you for your comment. I think the bridge may ‘seem’ too low from the height of the roadway in the painting but it is at a distance behind the RTW. The clearance for such vehicles to pass under it would not be overly generous within which I tried to portray a more atmospheric feel to it.
December 13th 2016           Michael Foster – Yes agree with you Huntly Maury, Looking at the picture again .
December 12th 2016           Dave Jessop – Fantastic picture
December 12th 2016           Steve Dowdeswell – Another great picture. Beats me people criticising the lovely painting.
Huntly Maury – Thank you Steve…
December 13th 2016            Dave Jessop – I think it’s got great character if you want a pristine image get a photo, seeing this through Huntly’s imagination makes it all the better , just wish I had one percent of his talent and ability.
December 13th 2016            Phillip Stringer – In the style of Brian Lewis??. Or Beryl Cook 珞 joking of course. Very nice artwork!
November 20th 2014          Diana Lloyd – I love the movement and the nostalgia in these watercolours. The London of the 60s and 70s is well captured in the sharp detail. Nearly every mode of transport is represented and, too, Maury has captured the sense that London was, in those days, a manageable city where small boys walked with their mothers on uncrowded pavements, the factory chimneys smoked and the double decker buses had the hole in the back – no automatic doors! I like the use of colour. London was never a city of primary colours. The weather doesn’t permit and Maury has placed the scene beneath a London day of [ typical] cloud cover. Wonderful paintings – more please!
Huntly Maury – Thank you for your well detailed appreciation towards London of the past within my watercolour paintings. I look forward to continuing with this subject for many a year!…
May 7th 2014        Sallie Albertina – Huntly…………..you are such a talent…………really and truly……….I wish you all the best with this……….it is your time………..you deserve the best in return………….thank you for sharing this………….Sallie
Huntly Maury – Thank you so much for your true words of kindness and inspiration towards my artwork Sallie. I greatly appreciate those comments. Take care. Cheers!
Huntly Maury –    To all who posted comments about my painting…A Very Big Thank You. Again, I am overwhelmed by the response that has been generated. Many Cheers!….

November 26th 2016              Roger Bachelor – I think you captured the spirit of the day very well –  Huntley, great painting 

Roger Bachelor  – You’re welcome Huntley, from an ex London bus driver
November 26th 2016                Roderick Chunn – The “bubble car” on the corner is a classic also…..

November 28th 2016                 Kelli Smith – Love this
November 30th 2016                Barry Young – Are signed / numbered reproductions going to be available for purchase?
Huntly Maury – Absolutely, Barry – they should be available shortly. Thank you for your interest in my artwork. Cheers!
November 27th 2016                 Roy Gould – Nice pic, but one classic error, vehicles in those days NEVER used headlights in London! If anyone did, they’d be flashed by other drivers for having headlights on. It’s a common mistake made by many artists and film and TV show makers.
November 27th 2016                  Roger Bachelor –  Get a life!
November 27th 2016                  Roy Gould –  I have got a life thank you, just pointing out a historical inaccuracy. The picture is nice and captures the atmosphere of the era. If one of my preserved bus had anything inaccurate it would be slated in certain quarters.
November 27th 2016                  Mike Smith –  High Beam Headlights Roy Gould and you maybe right, but not regarding headlights which would have left only side lights which c1964 wouldn’t have been that good, I think it’s a fantastic piece of art, so maybe on this occasion you earn a humbug award.
November 27th 2016                   Geoff Smith – I’m with you Roy, old I mean mate, I also remember back years where no one put their headlights on unless there were no street lights and if they did they were flashed at by other motorist’s, RTs and other classes of buses before the Routemaster to dip their lights was a matter of turning their offside headlight off just leaving the nearside on we did a conversation on RT 190 so we could use both headlights on full or dip and also turn the offside off ,. (Just for fun you understand) but to keep to as original as possible.
Huntly Maury – Thank you Roy…You’re correct and I do remember when vehicles had just sidelights only turned on when on lighted streets but although not historically correct, the warm effect I’ve tried to achieve of Christmastime would be less dramatic in its finish. I indeed wish you and your family a very special Christmas ahead! . November 27th 2016
December 1st 2016                            Jane Dutton – Nice one Huntly

May 18th 2015                   Diana Lloyd  – The DC3 – oh my, what a grande dame! Great painting of her, thank you Maury – I look at the DC3 and I think of another aircraft in another age which flew the route London, Benghazi, Rome, Nairobi. It must have been the East African Airways Comet. When I look at your painting of the Dakota I can feel the Comet’s swing and rattle as she crossed from North to South of the globe. I was old enough to remember the flight while my infant brother enjoyed the soundest sleep ever, his carry-cot swinging from the overhead hooks our mother had attached him to. More aviation artwork please
Huntly Maury – Thank you Diana for your comments and well detailed memories of past air travel adventures that the DC3 bestowed on its passengers and crew.

Senta Angwin  – A pleasure ….
February 12th 2017     Melvyn Biggs  – Bomb did not have Bomb Bay, just underneath
Huntly Maury  – Thank you for your comments. The Tallboy Lancasters appear to have had bulged bomb bay doors with no mid turret according to my sources. The Grand Slam varients definitely had no bomb bay doors. Please correct me ifI’m wrong…
Gerardo Vallelijes – Tallboys had modified bulging bomb bay doors, the Grand Slam was uncovered as the doors were removed.
