The Story Behind The Paintings :

A series of interesting and informal insights from the artist about the creation of his paintings from their inception to their completion:-

Avro Lancaster over Tromso, Norway 1944

Of all the British aircraft manufactured through the Second World War period, arguably one of the finest to come out in manufacture was the Avro Lancaster. Powered by four Rolls Royce Merlin engines, these powerful machines could carry the largest bomb payload of its time.

I became so inspired by the film and the Lancaster after being taken to the local cinema to see The Dambusters film of 1955  at the Hammersmith Odeon several years after its release. In fact, I became quite obsessive about drawing Lancasters when I was growing up.

One of the many famous raids involving Lancaster bombers was the sinking of the Tirpitz over Tromso, Norway in 1944 of which this painting depicts.
